Country chic in a former fortified Norman farm converted into a luxury hotel, la Ferme des Mares is a stylish hideaway where youll always find the warmest of welcomes. Mike and Sonia finding La Ferme des Mares, The Originals Relais in Saint-Germain-sur-Ay during a Sunday stroll back in August 2007 is nothing short of an epic love story. The former farm - which had been subsequently converted into a riding school and abandoned - was not looking its best, but we were mesmerized by the houses spirit, despite it being cold and in such a poor condition at the time. Mike and Sonia were 25 years old, and full of ideas, hopes, and energy. They bought it. Projects, brainstorming and building works ensued. Our family hotel-restaurant, which we poured our heart and soul into designing, opened its doors on the 27 March 2010. Sonia works out on the front desk and in the dining room, Mike takes care of the cooking (an Englishman in the kitchen! and Jackson, their dog, enthusiastically accompanies guests on their strolls around the garden and Normandy countryside. Since then, we have tried to honour this magical place by sharing our love of good food, the land around us here in Manche, and our sense of hospitality.
