The African Village Hotel is located on a rocky coastal cliff in Bakau and has a raised, man-made beach. The African Village Hotel is a budget priced tourist hotel which began life as a nightspot called Club 98. It was converted in 1974 into 28 rooms, increased to 43 in 1975 and rebuilt in 1979. It now has just over 70 rooms for tourists set in what is aimed to be in the style of a village with mod cons in the Bakau resort of The Gambia. As you enter the small, bustling complex there is an 85 metre walk which leads you past a mini-market and sleeping blocks to the swimming pool which is the centre piece of the accommodationResembling more of a shallow moat it has a man-made island in the centre upon which the thatched bar is built around a coconut palm.
